Please be advised, for the safety of staff and clients alike HOPES Community Action Partnership, Inc. will not be conducting in person tax preparation. By appointment only, clients have the option to drop off their documents at a designated site or to schedule a virtual return preparation.  


  • You will not be able to sit next to or across from your tax preparer as they complete your tax return as a precaution for the health and safety of everyone involved.  All tax sites will have your tax documents scanned, and then have you pick up, review, and sign your tax return within one week of your drop off date.


  • All can be done on your home computer or smartphone. You will need the ability to upload documents from your computer into our secure software program. Alternatively, you can take pictures of your documents on your smartphone and upload them to our secure software program. Once you make an appointment, you will receive an email describing what you need to do to get started. We will provide you with a support email to contact us with any difficulties you may experience. Your appointment slot does not necessarily mean that you will be speaking with a tax preparer at that exact time. This only reserves your place in the virtual queue for the date you select. Someone will arrange an agreed-upon time to contact you after your documents have been uploaded correctly into the software. After the initial phone call, the tax preparer will have 72 hours to complete your return. A quality reviewer will look over your return and schedule a time with you to review the return together over the phone. You will then sign the tax return by e-signature and your return will be e-filed.

List of Docs to Provide

Failure to provide all required documentation will delay your assistance. We require the following documents:

  • State Issued Photo ID or Passport
  • Social Security Card or Social Security Number Verification for you, your spouse and any dependents
  • Copy of dependents' birth certificate
  • Wage and earning statement(s): Form W2, W-2G,1099-R, from all employers
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Form 1099)
  • Proof of bank account routing and account number for Direct Deposit such as a blank check
  • Proof of Income: most recent 4 weeks pay stubs, or income letter
  • A copy of last year's federal and state return if available
  • Total amount paid in daycare, daycare provider's tax identification number
  • Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents

HOPES Community Action Partnership, Inc. provides free income tax preparation services through the IRS sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Asisstance (VITA) program.

Within minutes of making your appointment, you should receive a confirmation email with a calendar appointment attached to the email. In addition, you will also receive a phone reminder the day before your appointment.
